Pay
$17.00 TO $24.00 per hour dependent on education level. (E.g. Freshmen, Sophomore, Junior, Senior)
Hours
Temporary / Part time. Flexibility for academic schedules.
Limited to working an average of 20 hours per week (minimum commitment of 15 hours per week) not exceeding 940 hours per CalPERS fiscal year. Temporary positions are not eligible for benefits.

SSWD
The Sacramento Suburban Water District (SSWD), located in Sacramento, California, is a publicly owned and operated water utility formed in 2002 resulting from the merger of two agencies. SSWD provides water to its customers from 72 operational groundwater wells.
The Position
SSWD is looking for a self-starting and team-oriented individual to assist the Water Conservation and Human Resources departments as a Communications Student Intern.
This position is open to college students majoring in communications or closely related field.
Typical Duties:
- Assist in drafting and editing press releases, newsletters, fact sheets, and website content.
- Create and schedule posts for social media platforms.
- Help develop graphics, videos, and other visual content for communication campaigns.
- Support community outreach and public education initiatives, including event planning and participation.
- Monitor media coverage and help with media tracking and reporting.
- Update and maintain media lists and stakeholder contact databases.
- Conduct research on communication trends and best practices in the water utility sector.
- Update and maintain changes to the District website.
Qualifications
Preferred Major and Courses:
- Currently pursuing or recently completed degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
Preferred Experience:
- Microsoft Office – in particular, Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook.
- Working in an office environment and using a variety of office equipment.
- Gathering field data and information.
- Social media and communications.
Preferred Abilities:
- Positive attitude and self-motivated.
- Ability to independently and simultaneously organize and manage a variety of tasks.
- Attentive to detail.
- Strong oral / interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Responsible, quick learner, and committed to tasks at hand.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Other Requirements
The successful candidate must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment physical exam, and drug screen.
