Core Duties:
As a GIS Technician I you will:
📌 Enter and update GIS data (points, lines, and polygons) using forms, menus, and GIS software tools
🗺️ Review and interpret maps, legal descriptions, and documents to verify spatial and attribute data
🔍 Research and correct missing or inaccurate data using standard queries and scripts
🖨️ Create standard GIS maps, shapefiles, tables, and reports based on user needs
📍 Geo-reference maps to real-world locations using detailed procedures
✅ Check your own work for accuracy and completeness before submitting
🖥️ Operate GIS hardware like large-format plotters and scanners
🔄 Convert GIS data between coordinate systems and export maps to formats like PDF
🚶♂️ Collect location data in the field using GPS or other devices as needed

Needed to Qualify:
- Option I: An Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography or a closely related field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Geomatics) requiring at least 18 semester units or 27 quarter units of equivalent coursework in geographic information systems* -AND- 6 months of full time technical experience in the uses and operations of geographic information systems, including the entry, editing and retrieval of geospatial data in GIS databases.
*Successful completion of a recognized GIS certificate program requiring at least 18 semester units /27 quarter units of coursework* may be substituted for the required Associate's degree.
- Option II: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in geographic information systems, GIScience, geography or a closely related field (e.g., Civil Engineering, Geomatics) requiring equivalent coursework in geographic information systems.
We need you to submit proof of education along with the application. Acceptable documents are:
- A photocopy of diploma or official transcript OR
- A verification or confirmation letter from the school's Registrar's Office on the official letter head of the school, with college or university seal. It should indicate the date the degree was conferred and be in English.
