Accountant II
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Accountant II coordinates accounting functions such as general ledger/account maintenance, account reconciliation, data processing, reporting and software applications. The Accountant II provides direct support to the Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer to contribute to the overall effectiveness of the YMCA’s accounting department in its role of supporting the other units of the Association.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists Finance Director with day-to-day functions of the accounting and business operations for the YMCA and its related entities.
- Performs daily cash management, monthly bank reconciliation, assigned general ledger account reconciliation, preparation of invoices for accounts receivable, and maintenance of recurring journal entries; reviews and prepares non-recurring journal entries.
- Assists in the preparation and analysis of the monthly financial statements in relationship to the budget, prior year, and strategic plan. Assists branches with the analysis of their financial statements.
- Assists with month end/year end closings and work papers for the auditors.
- Assists with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual tax and informational returns.
- Submits and reports on Senior Third Party membership monthly usage and income and assists in maintaining accurate Senior Third Party membership records.
- Supports staff by preparing requested reports and having a working knowledge on required entries for memberships, childcare, and contributions.
- Receives grants and income and prepares information for the financial development office.
- Works with case managers at the Department of Family and Child Services and other entities to setup registration and invoicing of clients.
- Completes a variety of accounting, financial analysis, budget, and software application projects.
- Assists other accounting staff with invoice processing and shift close-out processing.
- May serve as liaison for the day-to-day banking activities.
- Attends assigned meetings and prepares and distributes meeting minutes, maintaining confidentiality, and retaining sensitive information within the accounting department.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- This is an entry level accounting position where you will play a vital role in supporting and strengthening community and organizational units.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting plus at least three years of accounting experience (or equivalent).
- May be substituted with an associate degree and at least four years of related work experience
- Experience with general ledgers, accounting functions, and accounting software.
- High proficiency with computerized accounting systems and sound working knowledge of MS Office applications.
- Excellent customer service skills with emphasis on ability to manage challenging customer, vendor or employee situations and ability to resolve issues in a timely manner.
- Strong data gathering, problem-solving, analytical, and organizational/time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Must be dependable and work well with confidential matters.
- YMCA Team Leader certification preferred.
- If not currently certified, certification to be completed within 24 months.
- Completion of YMCA required trainings
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
STARTING PAY: $26.00-28.00/hour, depending on experience
