Public Service Fellow
The WRCOG Public Service Fellowship Program is a paid, nine-month professional development opportunity designed to equip students for careers in the public sector. Fellows gain hands-on experience working in agencies across Western Riverside County while enriching their local community.

- $20.00 per hour
- California Paid Sick Leave (no other benefits provided)
- Professional Development Sessions hosted by WRCOG
Launched in 2016, the Fellowship connects local students and professionals with public agencies in need of emerging talent. Since its inception:
- 110+ Fellows trained
- 100,000+ service hours contributed
- 22 agencies served
- Many Fellows have been hired full-time by their host agency
The program is highly selective, requiring talent, professionalism, and initiative. Fellows complete meaningful projects while gaining mentorship and career development support.
WRCOG oversees:
- General program administration, payroll, and recruitment
- Matching Fellows with host agencies through a collaborative process
- Hosting Professional Development Sessions and networking opportunities
- Inviting Fellows to assist with WRCOG’s General Assembly and Leadership Address, gaining large-scale event experience with over 900 public and private sector leaders
Host agencies are responsible for:
- Participating in the recruitment process with WRCOG
- Providing meaningful projects and mentorship
- Offering growth opportunities that prepare Fellows for public sector careers
- Creating a supportive environment for skill development
Recruitment process:
- Initial Zoom interview with WRCOG staff
- In-person interview with prospective host agencies.
Eligibility:
- Undergraduate students, recent graduates, and graduate students (depending on host agency)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA
- Authorized to work in the United States
- Completed application

- Optional: one professional or academic letter of recommendation

Each host agency offers a unique placement with specific skills, requirements, and responsibilities, as well as varying work schedules, some including hybrid options. Please review each host agency carefully and consider where you would be the best fit. In your application, you may select which host agencies you’d like to apply to. While you may apply to all, we encourage you to focus on those that align best with your interests and skills. Details for each host agency are provided below.
