Air Compliance Inspector

Hiring Range: $57,733-$82,042

Full Time or Part Time: FULL TIME

Closing at: September 19, 2025

 

This position primarily conducts inspections, review records and permits, evaluate reports, provide technical assistance, and investigate complaints to evaluate compliance with the Air Pollution Control Law and Regulations, and initiate and follow through on enforcement in cases of non-compliance in order to protect, enhance, and preserve air quality in Virginia. This is a restricted position. Continued employment is contingent on the availability of grant or non-general funds.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary responsibilities include collecting data/samples and perform Q/A on ambient air monitoring stations, as needed, in accordance with federal standards and the Division of Air Monitoring Quality Assurance Manual, regulations, and other requirements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of scientific and/or manufacturing/commercial/industrial/mechanical processes and air pollution control regulations and standards
  • Skills and ability to:
    • communicate effectively verbally and in writing, organize work, set priorities, and perform tasks independently
    • read and interpret technical documents and understand mechanical and industrial processes
    • analyze and solve problems
    • apply established policy, procedures, and regulations
    • use computers for word processing and data management
    • Climb ladders, work at heights and maneuver in tight spaces
  • Must use hard hat, safety shoes, safety glasses, ear protection, gloves and/or protective clothing may be required in industrial settings.  See position’s Physical/Cognitive Requirements.
  • Combination of education and/or training/work experience demonstrating competence in environmental, engineering/physical/biological or related science.
  • Requires completion of EPA Method 9 Certification within 6 months of employment, and maintaining certification as deemed necessary to fulfill job responsibilities.
  • Must complete or provide certification of previous completion of the following National Incident Management (NIMS) courses: ICS100, ICS200, and IS700.
  • This position may require you to operate a state owned or leased vehicle. Therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
