Position Summary
The Pingry School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging Upper School Chemistry Leave Replacement Teacher to join a diverse academic community for our 2025-2026 school year from approximately December 1, 2025 to June 12, 2026. The ideal candidate is committed to guiding young people as they construct their understanding of Science in a student-centered classroom environment. This educator is a collaborator with an appreciation for the teachable moment when moral and ethical questions arise in and out of the classroom. A person with consistently high standards, the candidate of choice seeks growth and learning every day, both personally and professionally, and inspires others to do the same through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork. With robust interpersonal skills, the selected candidate has a real desire to contribute to the school community by sharing their passions and through additional efforts, such as advising students, coaching teams, directing clubs, or supervising activities.

Responsibilities

• Teaching 2 sections of Chemistry II with lab.
  • Chemistry II is a semester-long course mostly for sophomores who have just finished Biology II. This mostly quantitative course includes: stoichiometry, gas laws, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acid-base theory and an introduction to thermochemistry. The course seeks to enhance a student’s basic knowledge of descriptive chemistry while emphasizing the growth of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students will develop a thorough understanding of the fundamental concepts and forces that give rise to particular chemical and physical phenomena. Laboratory exercises are designed to acquaint the student with scientific methods and procedures of analytical qualitative and quantitative chemistry.
• Collaborate cross-departmentally on the development and execution of a Spring Intensive Course. 
• Fulfill any additional duties as assigned by the Upper School Director.
• Participate in all required meetings, including faculty division meetings, scheduled collaboration times, and professional development days.
• Participate in all required professional development activities.
• Provide extra support for students during flex and community times. 
• Schedule: Pingry follows a 7-day rotating schedule. Chemistry classes meet during Blocks 1 and 4, which shift times depending on the day in the rotation. This schedule requires the teacher to be on campus each school day, though there is no expectation to remain for the full day. Teachers are also expected to be available before school or during conference periods, as appropriate, based on where their teaching blocks fall in the schedule.

Qualifications

• A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
• Knowledge of disciplinary core ideas in Chemistry.
• Experience with and enthusiasm for teaching high school science.
• Willingness to work collaboratively with all faculty teaching the same course to ensure equity of content and assessment across course sections.
• Appreciation for the development of a scientific mindset.
• Fluency with varied hands-on investigation and laboratory-based pedagogy.
• Excitement about expanding pedagogy to incorporate new technology and reflect best practices.
• Dedication to integrating science with other curriculum subjects in a multidisciplinary approach.
• Understanding the developmental milestones for Upper School students.
• Experience with advising students.
• Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students.
• Robust interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Dedication to partnering collaboratively with a team of talented faculty.
• Comfort with incorporating the latest technology into your workflow, including  Schoology and Zoom.
• Skill in navigating the Google Suite of applications (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc.).
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience creating, supporting, and sustaining a culture of access and equity in science education.

The salary range for this position is $15,000 - $20,000. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and education.
