Creative Arts Therapist

The Watson Institute is hiring a full-time Creative Arts Therapist to provide movement, music, and art therapy/instructions across the three WISCA program locations: Sharpsburg, Bridgeville, and Sewickley.

This position supports student engagement, regulation, and creativity while promoting learning goals through expressive modalities. This position will work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will follow the school calendar.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct assessments in movement, music, and art; record and interpret assessment data
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans tailored to individual student needs and goals in each content area
  • Adapt activities to support therapeutic objectives and student abilities
  • Provide a consistent and safe learning environment for all students
  • Complete student progress reports for each subject area taught
  • Order, organize, and maintain supplies and materials across all three sites
  • Utilize appropriate instructional and behavior support strategies
  • Travel regularly between sites; manage schedule in coordination with building teams
  • Collaborate with staff, supervisors, and administrators as part of a transdisciplinary team
  • Maintain regular communication with families and school district personnel as needed
  • Participate in school-wide events, team meetings, and professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Skills Required:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills for multi-site service delivery
  • Creativity and flexibility in adapting therapeutic content
  • Ability to work collaboratively with classroom and therapeutic teams
  • Understanding of behavior support and regulation strategies
  • Physical ability to lead movement/gym activities and support students as needed

 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Creative Arts Education, Art Therapy, Music Therapy, Dance/Movement Therapy, or a related field (Master’s Degree preferred)
  • Certification or licensure as a Creative Arts Teacher preferred (e.g. MT-BC, ATR, R-DMT, or equivalent)
  • Experience working with students with autism or in special education settings preferred
  • Must be able to travel between the Sharpsburg, Bridgeville, and Sewickley locations
  • Ability to lift and assist students up to 40 pounds and participate in physical activities
  • Ability to respond to and support students during emergencies and transitions
  • Current Act 34, 114, and 151 clearances
  • Pre-employment medical examination, including tuberculosis test, required
