Boyden Gallery and Collection Assistant
The Dwight Frederic Boyden Fine Art Gallery and Collection at St. Mary's College of Maryland is hiring ONE new Gallery/Collection Assistants for Spring 2026, with the hope to continue into the next academic year. Located in Montgomery Hall, the Gallery is open to the public Tuesday-Friday, 11-6, and on Saturdays from 11-4. The Gallery will host two exhibitions during the spring semester. Gallery/Collection Assistants are essential to supporting the mission of the Dwight Frederic Boyden Fine Art Gallery and Collection; the position requires good communication skills, punctuality, organization, and confidence in working independently. Stationed at the reception desk, Boyden Assistants welcome visitors, monitor gallery activity, and are available to answer questions about the exhibition. They could be asked to aid in the installation or de-installation of an exhibit or support staffing at events related to an exhibit such as receptions, artist talks, and affiliated campus events. Alongside work in the Gallery, this assistant could have the opportunity to work with the Fine Arts Collection located in the Art Annex. For this related work, they will learn how to perform the everyday maintenance needs of a fine art collection–cleaning, documenting changes in the space, etc–as well as contribute to larger projects which may include assessing the condition of artworks and learning to navigate our archival database. In addition, the assistants will gain foundational knowledge of fine art collection practices and early experience in gallery curation. All Gallery/Collection assistants will meet weekly (as a group) with the Gallery leadership team. Anyone interested in pursuing arts and archival work is invited to apply, but candidates with a declared major in studio art for this particular opening will receive special consideration, given the current needs of our staffing.
