Summer Camp Educator

Cedar Circle Farm is hosting the tenth year of the unique farm-based summer program for children ages 6-11. We have a capacity of 30 campers each week, and Summer Camp Educators guide groups of about ten campers each during camp activities and farm explorations, with support from the Assistant Summer Camp Educator and Mentors in Training (MITs).
About the Position
The Summer Camp Educator role is for experienced educators looking to expand their skills in leading groups of children outdoors. Together, our staff work to build a safe environment for learning and fun and make meaningful relationships with our campers. If you are a creative and inclusive educator who is willing to be silly and is passionate about outdoor education, food, gardening, and nature, we would love to hear from you!
Schedule:
Eight individual weeks of camp are scheduled from June 22nd to August 14th, Monday through Friday, with a mandatory staff training session from June 15th to 19th, and post-camp cleanup/reflection on August 17th. The camp day is from 9 am to 4 pm, and Educator time on the farm will typically be 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Responsibilities
- Deliver programs designed to encourage campers' connection to nature, food, and each other through exploration of Cedar Circle Farm.
- Directly supervise campers, including managing groups and resolving conflicts.
- Prioritize the physical and emotional safety of campers on a working farm.
- Collaborate with other staff to create weekly schedules and curricula that are age-appropriate, diverse, and represent our educational goals.
- Participate in daily debrief meetings to share ideas and improve our program.
- Interact with parents and caregivers of campers.
- Help guide and delegate tasks to the Assistant Summer Camp Educator and Mentors in Training (MITs).
- Aid in preparation and clean up of all aspects of camp programming.
- Other related assignments as necessary.
Qualifications
- Experience working as an educator, such as an outdoor educator, classroom teacher, or camp counselor.
- Enthusiasm for experiential, place-based, inclusive education.
- Interest in gardening, sustainable farming practices, food systems, and environmental education.
- The physical and mental stamina to work outside in all weather conditions and keep up with an active group of kids.
- CPR and First Aid Certification (we will provide certification if you do not have it).
Compensation
The Summer Camp Educator position is an hourly position with benefits including paid sick leave, fresh produce, a 20% discount at our farmstand and cafe, and access to an employee assistance program. Pay rate is $17/hr.
