Summer Camp Counselor
Job Summary
The Summer Camp Counselor position assists the Programming team with implementation of the summer camp program. Summer Camp Counselors are responsible for creating a safe, fun, and supportive environment for campers. Counselors supervise campers, lead activities, model positive behavior, and help ensure each camper has an enjoyable and memorable camp experience.
Main Responsibilities
- Supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times
- Lead and assist with daily camp activities, games, and programs
- Build positive relationships with campers and encourage inclusion and teamwork
- Enforce camp rules and behavior expectations in a fair and respectful manner
- Serve as a positive role model through attitude, behavior, and language
- Assist with setup, cleanup, and organization of camp areas and materials
- Communicate effectively with fellow staff and camp leadership
- Respond appropriately and promptly to emergencies following camp procedures
- Be on-time and ready for all shifts

Additional Responsibilities
- Interact with people of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds
- Able to perform other general duties and special projects as assigned

Required Skills and Abilities
- Enjoys working with children of various ages
- Strives to maintain an energetic and positive attitude at all times, especially around children
- Must have a constant awareness for safety and wellness of children
- Calm under pressure and adaptable
- Must be well organized, responsible, and dependable

- Self-motivated, self-starter with a solid service-oriented mentality
- Ability to follow directions and be respectful of authority
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills
- Proficient with communication apps like email, text messaging, and GroupMe
Education, Training, and Experience
- Experience working with children strongly preferred
- Must be 16 years or older
- CPR/First Aid certified a plus, but not required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to engage in activities that may require standing for long periods, running, squatting, bending, and kneeling
- Ability to lift 25 pounds regularly
- Ability to work outdoors in hot weather
