Laboratory Technician
POSITION: Laboratory Technician
SUMMARY
This is an entry-level position in a laboratory, testing samples of various materials such as coal, coke, biomass, limestone and fertilizer. With guidance from the Laboratory Manager and standard methods and procedures, the Lab Technician is responsible for:
- Performing physical and chemical testing of prepared samples according to qualifications and training.
- The operation and calibration of analytical laboratory test equipment.
- Recording test data and maintaining reports and documentation as required by procedures.
- Performing in-process inspection on test data.
- Verification and transfer of collected data to laboratory database.
- Performing various quality assurance procedures for ensuring conformity.
- Complying with all environmental, health, safety & training policies, procedures, and requirements.
- Regular preventative maintenance and cleaning of laboratory instruments and facilities.
Minimum Position Requirements
- An Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Chemistry is preferred.
- Prior lab experience is preferred. Experience with ICP Spectrometry is desirable.
- Proficiency in the use of the company laboratory data input program after completion of the training period.
- Ability to grasp new procedures quickly and be capable of working independently and efficiently after completion of the training period.
- Ability to perform measurements and computations in various units using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, ratios, and percentages.
- Ability to detect deviations from acceptable data criteria. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written and oral instructions. Ability to apply critical thinking to standardized situations where company precedent/ legal precedent applies.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and strong computer, mathematics, and science knowledge.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to stand for periods of time, walk, sit, climb, and lift and/or move objects of various weights.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, pressurized gases, outside weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and noise exposure.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen prior to employment.
