Summer Camp Head Chef

Role Overview
Under the direction of the Culinary Arts Manager, Summer Camp Head Chefs lead all aspects of kitchen operations within a Language Village. Head Chefs plan menus, order food, supervise kitchen staff, and ensure meals are prepared safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the Village’s cultural focus.

This position is not language-specific and may be assigned to any Language Village.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Research, plan, and prepare culturally appropriate meals and recipes
  • Develop menus in collaboration with Village leadership and plan at least one week in advance
  • Budget for, order, and manage food supplies in accordance with CLV guidelines
  • Prepare and serve meals with the support of kitchen staff
  • Schedule, supervise, mentor, and provide feedback to kitchen team members
  • Uphold sanitation, food safety, and health standards in compliance with state regulations
  • Maintain menu records, recipes, and kitchen documentation
  • Report challenges, successes, and recommendations at the end of the employment period
  • Model professionalism, adaptability, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to lead and mentor staff in a team-based kitchen environment
  • Comfort adapting to changing needs and schedules
  • Clear communication and sound judgment
  • Interest in cooking and working with culturally diverse cuisines

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Culinary-related major, minor, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with menu planning and ordering food and supplies
  • Knowledge of sanitation practices and food safety procedures

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with quantity cooking in a camp, resort, or institutional setting
  • Prior Concordia Language Villages or camping experience
  • Oral proficiency in a target language
