Role Description:
Description of Duties:
• Provide prompt, friendly and courteous customer service to ensure students accessing the Pantry feel welcomed
• Communicate with students, staff and donors in a friendly, professional way that encourages community and a sense of belonging.
• Provides day-to-day operational leadership, including opening/closing, restocking, deliveries, cleaning, and participant services
• Must keep shelves, coolers, bins and associated materials in clean and orderly condition
• Inventory management and safe stocking, storage, and display of perishable and shelf-stable foods and hygiene products
• Maintains food safety, food distribution, food rescue, compost and recycling standards
• Processes compost, recycling, and trash promptly and keeps floor areas clean and safe
• Maintains safe operations for students and visitors of the pantry
• Monitors cooler and freezer temperatures
• Notifies Basic Needs Coordinator of operational concerns or problems
• Manages general pantry administration with professional office communication (e.g., phone and email)
• Assist with making appointments for Basic Needs staff
• Answer the Basic Needs phone line
• Assist office staff in special projects such as creating flyers
• Other duties as assigned
• 5 to 20 hours per week, depending on availability.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to maintain a confidential, non-judgmental environment.
• Ability to empathize with students experiencing housing and/or food insecurity.
• Ability to work independently.
• Appropriate student service attitude.
• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs., sort inventory and use equipment to lift heavy items safely
• Must be able to work early morning and some weekends
• Must be able to do general cleaning and store food safely
• Regular, predictable attendance and communication.
• Must participate in mandatory training: August 17, 2026- August 21, 2026.
• Must participate in weekly staff meetings.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Customer service and office telephone experience preferred.
• Experience working with diverse student populations, volunteer or nonprofit experience.
• 2.5 GPA or higher.
• All majors.
• Bilingual skills encouraged.
Exceptions to the minimum eligibility qualifications may be granted at the sole discretion of the University.

Additional Information:
All work must be performed within the State of California.
Compliance training completion (approx. 4 hours of work time) is required of this position within the first 30 days of work.
The person holding this position is not considered a ‘mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
