Internship Description
The Folsom Lake–UC Davis Undergraduate Research Internship (FUURI) offers Folsom Lake College students a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a research laboratory at University of California, Davis.
Selected interns will be paired with graduate student mentors in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (CA&ES) and participate in applied chemistry research addressing real-world problems. This program is ideal for students interested in chemistry, environmental science, or related STEM fields, and those considering transfer to UC Davis.
What You’ll Do
- Work in a research lab under a graduate student mentor
- Assist with experiments and data collection
- Read and engage with scientific literature
- Learn and apply laboratory safety and techniques
- Collaborate with lab members and other interns
End-of-Program Expectations:
- Create a research poster
- Deliver a short (10–15 minute) presentation to lab peers
- Present at the FLC Fall Research Symposium
- Give a follow-up presentation at FLC in the spring
Time Commitment
- ~25–30 hours per week
- ~1 month duration (starting July 2026; flexible start date)
- Schedule may vary depending on research activities (not a fixed 9–5)
Compensation & Academic Credit
- $2,500–$3,500 stipend (depending on cohort size)
- Paid in two installments (August and September)
- Opportunity for additional funding through MESA (if eligible)
- Earn 1–2 units of CHEM 498 or BIO 498 (required enrollment)
Basic Qualifications
- Current Folsom Lake College student in good academic standing
- Completion of CHEM 401 (minimum)
- Basic lab skills and understanding of lab safety
- Ability to commit to the full internship schedule
- Reliable transportation to UC Davis
Preferred Qualifications
- Additional coursework in chemistry and/or biology
- Interest in transferring to UC Davis (TAG encouraged)
- Strong interest in research and applied science
- Flexible availability
Important Notes
- Students without a bachelor’s degree will be given priority
- Students from underrepresented backgrounds in STEM are strongly encouraged to apply
- Interns should expect some personal expenses (transportation, parking, meals)
- Must follow all UC Davis campus policies
