STDT 3 - Department of Internal Medicine - Division of Hematology Oncology

Reports To: Faculty PI and Administrative Supervisor

Department Summary: The Division of Hematology Oncology has more than 30 physician and research faculty, five MSP physicians, twelve fellows, 10 nurse practitioners, more than fifty research and administrative staff, and operates a large and diverse clinical and research program. The division is a major component of the NCI-designated UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center and has a strong presence in developmental therapeutics with an Experimental Therapeutics Clinical Trials Network (ETCTN) grant and as a Lead Academic Participating Site (LAPS) with the NCI National Clinical Trials Network.

Position Summary: This part-time position assists with lab studies, to include culture work, molecular biology studies, animal studies with mouse models including genotyping, tumor measurements, and treatments. Experience is a plus but not required. The ideal candidate would be interested in moving on to medical or graduate school. Working hours are 18-20 hours a week.

This position reports onsite. This is not a remote or hybrid opportunity.
 

Key Responsibilities: 
Research Support: Assist with research studies, including:
• Assist and perform cell culture work
• Assist and perform mouse studies, including genotyping, tumor implantations, and experimental treatments
• Assist and perform molecular biology studies including Western blotting
• Maintain and organize mouse colonies
• Receive and organize ordered items in the lab
• Assist with research supply ordering and record keeping

Minimum Qualifications:
• Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and communication skills to work as part of a research team
• Enthusiasm for learning research techniques and principles
• Accurate and timely record keeping for experiments and lab organization
• Write and speak the English language well enough to perform all work functions

Preferred Qualifications:
• Major in Biological field
• Interest in considering a career in medicine and/or biomedical research
• Two years or greater of undergraduate coursework
