Mi Casita Preschool Head Teacher Job Description
We are looking to fill a Head Teacher position in a 2’s, 3’s, or 4’s classroom for the 26–’27 school year. Placement is based on your experience and the school’s needs.
Spanish speakers will be prioritized.
Mi Casita is a Reggio Emilia-inspired Spanish immersion preschool rooted in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. We are a 38 student, light-filled school where curriculum emerges from real inquiry. Documentation is how we co-construct curriculum, build relationships with families, and assess children’s needs, and varieties of Spanish are acknowledged and celebrated.
We began as a Reggio inspired home-based bilingual preschool in 2011 and have grown into a three-classroom school dedicated to honoring the creativity and brilliance of young children and the communities they come from.

The Head Teacher’s responsibilities include:
Classroom Management
- Creating a thoughtful classroom environment that inspires play and curiosity and fosters the physical, social, emotional and intellectual growth of the children;
- Observing and documenting classroom interactions through individual and whole group assessments, photographs, documentation, etc.
- Collaborate with the teaching team to maintain the everyday function of the classroom.
Curriculum Design & Collaboration
Well versed and open to learning more about:
- a variety of progressive emergent approaches, especially the Reggio Emilia Approach;
- Spanish immersion in early education
- designing and implementing emergent curriculum, with the ability to curate the physical classroom environment to promote learning;
- implementing equity and social justice principles into the everyday experience of the children;
- how to recognize and disrupt oppressive narratives in society and ourselves;
- Routinely meeting with teaching team to create meaningful and relevant emergent curriculum;
- Critically analyzing child observations and collaborate with teaching team to guide curriculum
- Performing and analyzing ongoing developmental assessments.
Communication
- Maintain regular communication with families
- Sharing classroom documentation both digitally and in the learning space
- Planning and facilitating bi-annual parent teacher conferences;
- Meeting with parents and administration to find avenues of support for individual children
Team Work
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with co-workers
- Dialogue, problem solve, and contribute thoughts to maintaining and growing the capacity of the team
- Collaborate with colleagues to equitably cover the scheduling needs of the school
Hours
Head Teacher positions are full-time positions.
Benefits & Salary
This position includes full health benefits and a 401(k) with matching (after one year). The salary range is $27.00–$38.00 per hour. The range reflects educators completing a degree or working toward their teaching license eligible for a 7-year plan according to the Department of Health to candidates who already hold a NYS teaching license or equivalent. Qualifications:
- Genuine joy for teaching, learning and creative rigor;
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or related field or;
- Currently enrolled in a program that will lead to a bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field;
- At least two years of supervised teaching experience in an early childhood classroom
- Strong in both English and Spanish;
- Strong written and verbal communications skills, as well as proven problem-solving skills;
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills;
- Knowledge on principles and policies of safety and age-appropriate activities for children;
- The ability to multitask and adhere to timelines;
