Modern Foreign Languages Teacher (ECT) – Hertfordshire
Location: Hertfordshire and North London
Salary: £37,870 per annum – Outer London M1
Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary
Start date: 8 September 2026
ConnECT is looking for an energetic and engaging Modern Foreign Languages Teacher (ECT) to join a supportive secondary school serving Hertfordshire and North London.
The school values language learning as an important part of developing pupils’ confidence, cultural awareness and communication skills. The MFL department works collaboratively and uses speaking activities, digital resources and authentic materials to make lessons practical and enjoyable.
This role would suit an ECT specialising in French, Spanish or both. Experience teaching another language would also be welcomed.
The role
You will teach MFL across KS3 and KS4, with possible KS5 opportunities depending on your specialism and the school timetable. You will help pupils develop confidence in speaking, listening, reading and writing.

Key responsibilities
• Plan and deliver lively, well-structured language lessons.
• Teach French, Spanish or another relevant language across KS3 and KS4.
• Prepare pupils for GCSE speaking, listening, reading and writing assessments.
• Encourage confident spoken language and accurate pronunciation.
• Adapt lessons for SEN, EAL and different attainment levels.
• Use digital tools and authentic resources to support learning.
• Contribute to language clubs, cultural events and educational visits.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues on curriculum planning.

Requirements
• QTS achieved or expected by September 2026.
• A recognised teaching qualification.
• A degree in languages or a closely related subject.
• Strong fluency in at least one modern foreign language.
• Recent secondary teaching experience.
• Knowledge of the KS3 and KS4 MFL curriculum.
• An enthusiastic, organised and inclusive teaching style.
