St. Mary's College of Maryland Communications and Marketing is looking for Social Media Interns. We have 3 roles we are looking to fill. 

Essential Skills (All Roles)

  • Brand & Campus Literacy: Deep knowledge of campus traditions, student lingo, major events, and campus subcultures. 
  • Basic Canva Proficiency: Ability to quickly apply brand kits, swap text/images in templates, use Background Remover, and export in correct dimensions (9:16 vertical, 4:5 feed, 1:1 square).
  • Storytelling & Visual Judgment: Eye for clean framing, good lighting, clear audio, and engaging hooks within the first 3 seconds of a video.
  • Judgment & Professionalism: High emotional intelligence to represent the college publicly, maintain student privacy, and handle sensitive or negative comments appropriately.

 

Role A: Takeover Manager / Reel Editor Focus:  Recruit takeover candidates. Post takeover content and coordinate live Q&As. Edit raw footage and turn content into polished Reels.
 

  • Short-Form Video Editing: Mastery of mobile editing tools (CapCut, Premiere Rush, or native Instagram/TikTok editors) for pacing, jump cuts, text overlays, and audio syncing.
  • Talent Scouting & Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to recruit, pitch, and prep students, faculty, and alumni for takeovers without hand-holding.
  • Strict Time & Schedule Management: Must be hyper-organized and reliable on Tuesdays to manage live story feeds and real-time interactive stickers (Q&As, polls).

Role B: The Listener Focus: Brand monitoring, network navigation, and community management.

  • Social Listening & Campus Networking: Ability to unearth hidden stories on LinkedIn, Instagram tags, location pins, and Reddit/student forums.
  • Copywriting & Tone Adaptability: Skill to write friendly, encouraging, and brand-safe replies in the college’s voice to both prospective students and alumni.
  • High Professionalism & Diplomacy: Direct message etiquette to obtain media releases/permissions from original creators seamlessly and professionally.

Role C: Content Creator Focus: High-volume output, creative execution, and Canva agility.

  • Rapid Production & Batching: Ability to turn around 3–5 short-form videos per week without getting bogged down in perfectionism.
  • Advanced Canva Speed Work: Power-user knowledge of Canva (batch create, animated text, custom template building, and video clip splicing).
  • Trend Adaptation: Skill to quickly translate fast-moving internet trends, memes, or audio into hyper-relevant jokes about college life and your specific majors.
