Community Interpreter

Community Interpreter – Canopy NWA

 

Canopy NWA is seeking multilingual community interpreters to help strengthen our language access services and support individuals and families in Northwest Arkansas. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about helping others and who can use their language skills to help bridge communication gaps within our community.

We are particularly seeking interpreters who speak Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, French, Pashto, or Dari.

Position Overview

Community Interpreters will support Canopy NWA on an as-needed basis. Interpreters may be contacted when interpretation needs arise and will help facilitate clear, respectful, and effective communication between Canopy NWA staff and the individuals and families we serve.

This is a flexible opportunity for individuals who want to use their language skills to make a meaningful impact in the Northwest Arkansas community.

Responsibilities

  • Provide accurate, respectful, and culturally responsive interpretation for Canopy NWA as requested.
  • Facilitate communication between Canopy NWA staff and community members.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with individuals and families.
  • Communicate availability and respond to interpretation requests as needed.
  • Participate in interpreter training provided by Canopy NWA.
  • Follow Canopy NWA policies and interpreter standards.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Spanish, French, Pashto, or Dari, along with English.
  • Strong communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to communicate respectfully across cultures and communities.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Previous interpreting experience is a plus but not required. Canopy NWA will provide interpreter training.
  • A desire to support newcomers, immigrants, refugees, and other members of the Northwest Arkansas community.

Compensation & Volunteer Opportunities

Interpretation opportunities will be offered on an as-needed basis. Depending on an individual's work authorization and Canopy NWA policies, opportunities may include:

  • Paid interpretation services;
  • Gift cards, when permitted; or
  • Volunteer opportunities.

Eligibility for payment, gift cards, or volunteer opportunities will be determined on an individual basis in accordance with applicable requirements and Canopy NWA policies.

Training & Support

Canopy NWA will provide interpreter training to help interpreters develop the skills and knowledge needed to provide effective, professional, and culturally responsive interpretation.
