About the Role
We are looking for a creative and enthusiastic Clay Sculpting Instructor to lead an engaging enrichment program for middle school students.
You'll introduce students to clay through hands-on projects that encourage creativity, imagination, and self-expression. Students will explore basic sculpting techniques while designing and creating their own original artwork in a fun and supportive environment.
This role isn't about creating perfect artwork. It's about helping students experiment, develop creative skills, and turn their ideas into something real.
You do not need to be a professional artist or traditional classroom teacher to apply. If you have experience with clay, ceramics, sculpting, pottery, or hands-on art and enjoy working with students, we encourage you to apply.
Curriculum guidance and instructional materials are provided, so you'll have a clear foundation for each class while still having room to bring your own creativity, personality, and teaching style.
What You'll Do
- Lead engaging, hands-on clay sculpting classes
- Teach basic sculpting techniques such as shaping, molding, pinching, rolling, and texturing
- Guide students through creative and age-appropriate sculpting projects
- Demonstrate techniques clearly and break projects into manageable steps
- Encourage creativity, experimentation, and individual artistic expression
- Help students turn their ideas and imagination into physical creations
- Encourage problem-solving and creative thinking throughout the design process
- Adapt activities for different abilities and experience levels
- Create a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Provide encouragement and constructive feedback
- Promote safe and responsible use of art materials and tools
- Maintain an organized and welcoming classroom
- Communicate professionally with program coordinators and school staff
- Arrive prepared, dependable, and ready to engage students
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience or familiarity with clay, ceramics, sculpting, pottery, or hands-on art
- Has a genuine interest in creativity and artistic expression
- Can clearly demonstrate and explain basic sculpting techniques
- Is patient, enthusiastic, and encouraging
- Is comfortable leading groups of students
- Can adapt activities for different abilities and skill levels
- Understands basic classroom and material safety
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is reliable, professional, and organized
- Can follow provided curriculum while bringing creativity to the classroom
Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required.
Experience in ceramics, sculpture, pottery, visual arts, art education, tutoring, camps, youth programs, mentoring, or related fields is a plus.
