Laser Dicing Specialist

Position Summary

TalentWise is seeking a Laser Dicing Specialist to support our customer’s Research Hardware team in Redmond, Washington. In this role, you will perform laser dicing and precision cutting of optical substrates, wafers, and prototype assemblies used in next-generation optics and display research.

You will work closely with engineers and scientists to produce research prototypes to tight specifications. The facility includes CO2, UV, fiber, and ultrafast laser systems, along with precision dicing saws. Training will be provided on the customer’s specific equipment and processes. We are looking for someone with strong lab instincts, attention to detail, and a disciplined approach to safety and process control.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate laser dicing and cutting systems for prototype fabrication.
• Run established process recipes and assist with adjusting parameters for materials including glass, silicon, silicon carbide, polymers, and optical films.
• Handle and align wafers and substrates, including mounting, taping, cleaning, and de-taping.
• Inspect and verify completed parts using optical microscopes and standard measurement tools.
• Document production results, yield, defects, process conditions, and other required data.
• Perform routine equipment maintenance and calibration.
• Identify and escalate equipment issues and assist with coordinating vendor service when needed.
• Maintain accurate equipment logs, process records, and consumables inventory.
• Follow all laser safety, environmental health and safety, and facility protocols.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and ready for prototype work.

Minimum Qualifications

• Hands-on experience in a laboratory, machine shop, fabrication, or precision manufacturing environment. Relevant technical programs, internships, and related experience will be considered.
• Exposure to fabrication or precision manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Demonstrated ability to work safely around hazardous or high-powered equipment.
• Willingness to complete required laser safety training and certification.
• Ability to read and follow technical drawings, work instructions, and process specifications.
• Ability to record process and inspection data accurately.
• Strong attention to detail, steady hands, and consistency when performing repetitive precision work.
• Ability to work independently, communicate problems early, and ask questions when requirements are unclear.
• Comfortable working in a fast-moving research and prototyping environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience operating industrial laser systems, including CO2, UV, fiber, diode, or ultrafast lasers.
• Experience operating semiconductor dicing saws.
• Familiarity with laser safety classifications and ANSI Z136 standards or equivalent.
• Experience with semiconductor, MEMS, or optics processes such as dicing, singulation, laser lift-off, wafer thinning, or optics-grade material handling.
• Experience working in a cleanroom or following ESD-safe handling practices.
• Familiarity with CAD/CAM toolpaths, process development, or technical data logging.
• Technical certificate or associate degree in laser technology, photonics, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
• Previous experience in a research, development, or prototype fabrication environment.
