Seasonal Retail Associate @ Downtown DC Holiday Market

Part-time and full-time positions | November 11–December 23, 2026 

Because Science is a science-inspired gift shop where art, curiosity, and creativity come together. We’re seeking friendly, dependable retail associates to help customers find great gifts at our Downtown DC Holiday Market (DTHM) booth. 

Location: Our outdoor booth located at the intersection of F and 9th Streets NW, outside the National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC.

Pay and Bonus Opportunity 

Part-time: $18.50/hour, 20-30 hours/week 

Full-time: $19.50/hour, 40 hours/week, OT eligibility upon approval 

All training in early November is paid. Employee discount is 20% If we surpass our market sales goal, employees will receive a bonus scaled according to hours worked. This temporary position does not include health insurance or paid time off because the employment period is shorter than our 90-day benefits waiting period.

Schedule and Training

The schedule for the entire market is set in early November. We work together to choose days and shifts that accommodate team members’ personal needs while covering the market. Weekend availability is required across the market’s 6-week run: Full-time employees: At least ten weekend days total Part-time employees: At least five weekend days total

Training is provided at our Adams Morgan store in early November, followed by on-site training during market setup and the first few days of DTHM. Responsibilities Welcome customers, answer questions, and help them choose gifts. Learn about our products and share what makes them special. Process purchases accurately using our point-of-sale system. Restock merchandise and keep displays organized and the booth tidy. Assist with routine booth tasks as needed.

What We’re Looking For 

Previous retail experience is required Friendly, confident communication with customers An interest in science Comfort with the fast pace of a busy holiday market Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail Ability to follow directions and work independently Willingness to work in an outdoor market during late fall and winter (we provide electric heaters!) Availability for early-November training and the required weekend days

We provide training on our products, systems, and market operations.
