Laboratory Research Assistant

The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center is seeking two (2) full-time Laboratory Research Assistants in the lab of Dr. Aaron Stonestrom.  The goal of Dr. Stonestrom's lab is to create better treatments for leukemia and related bone marrow failure syndromes employing a multidisciplinary approach utilizing gene editing, synthetic biology, and epigenetic characterization to understand founding genetic alterations that drive these diseases.

Primary Duties

  • Perform standard laboratory techniques including DNA/RNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR), cell culture, microscopy, preparation of high throughput sequencing libraries.
  • Compile and analyze research data.
  • Administrative duties include training and guiding students and/or other laboratory technicians, and ordering supplies.
  • Willingness to work with animals (mice) preferred but not required.
  • Technical and intellectual contribution to cancer research resulting in publication co-authorship.
  • Additional learning opportunities related to clinical oncology and computer programming /coding dependent on interest and career goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry or field of study related to the research of the laboratory.
Other: May require training related to occupational safety and health, environmental compliance, shipping of hazardous materials and/or ionizing radiation. May consider a combination of directly related experience and education.

Hiring Range: $46,000 - $50,000, commensurate with education and experience.
