Hydropower Internship

Overview

This position is a temporary summer internship focused on the development of standard operating procedures (SOP) for a fleet of hydropower facilities. The position will involve multiple week-long visits to the facilities to build an understanding of how the sites are maintained and operated, and documenting these processes. The person hired for this position will also develop proper safety procedures for the site and as such will be trained in various safety techniques used when operating industrial machinery. 

This is a remote position. Candidates located within driving distance of Upstate NY are preferred.

Internship Outline

  1. Week 1 – Onboarding and safety trainings
  2. Week 2 – Complete safety trainings, outline manuals, develop a list of information needed, potential site visits
  3. Week 3 – Site visits, gather information needed to write SOPs
  4. Week 4 – Writing week
  5. Week 5-8 – Writing and site visits as needed
  6. Week 8-10 – Final review and editing

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Mechanical and/or electrical aptitude, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or other technical discipline students
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to work in adverse conditions using the appropriate PPE
  • Travel to the sites as needed up to 50% of time – valid driver’s license o Trips will typically be 1 week long throughout Upstate NY

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Good communication, and organizational skills

Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of or previous exposure to the standard maintenance and operating procedures of hydropower plants or other industrial machinery
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and civil drawings for the use of documenting equipment maintenance and operations.
  • Knowledge of, exposure to, or previous experience with powerplant or other industrial equipment operations
  • Proper PPE usage

Compensation

  • Compensation for this role is between $800 and $1200 per week.
  • Meals, lodging, and travel expenses to be paid while traveling.
