Air Quality Intern
Bureau of Air & Waste Air Quality Intern
MassDEP’s Western Regional Office is seeking an intern to support a range of air quality initiatives, particularly in Environmental Justice (EJ) communities. This position offers a hands-on opportunity to work with real-world air monitoring data to assess environmental conditions, identify potential pollution sources, and support public health-focused research.
Responsibilities will include:
- Download, organize, and analyze air quality data from monitoring stations and other sources.
- Use Excel to assess and visualize data trends through tables and charts.
- Assist with a cumulative impact assessment (CIA) in collaboration with senior MassDEP staff.
- Interpret findings to evaluate air quality impacts in EJ communities.
- Develop a written summary report and PowerPoint presentation outlining key results and insights.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
- Strong skills in the use of the Microsoft Suite, particularly with Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Skills in data management and analysis.
- Working knowledge of statistics is also preferred.
- Ability to gather information and maintain accurate records.
- Ability to understand and apply the regulations, policies, and procedures governing assigned activities.
